Volunteering at The Katie Piper Foundation

There’s a really great mix of volunteer roles here at The Katie Piper Foundation which develop all the time depending on the needs of people living with burns and scars. We make sure that our volunteers are involved in the areas of work that are the most urgent and can make the biggest difference.  As a volunteer you will be treasured for your commitment and recognised for the remarkable difference you will make.

Urgently needed role for end of 2016!

Katie and the team have had an exciting idea for an online fundraiser for Christmas.  But we can’t do it alone!  So we’re now are looking for someone special to join the creative and focussed team straight away!  Here are the details:

Special Online Projects Volunteer (short-term, part-time)

Time period: The Festive Season!  Starting as soon as possible.  Finishing on approximately 6th January 2017 with the possible option to continue on other projects.

Time commitment: You will give the project the best shot at success if you can work for between two and three full days a week for a month, with 1-2 hours voluntary on the remaining week days.  We understand that over Christmas you’ll have plans!

Location: At least the first two days would be in The Katie Piper Foundation’s offices in the West End, London.  Following that, the voluntary hours can be fulfilled from home or away from the office.

Practical Requirements and Information

  • Access to the internet from home required – on smartphone or laptop
  • Able to visit the London office

Your Skills and Experience

  • Frequent user of social media sites including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram with a basic understanding of their use for charities and businesses.
  • Strong written skills – good spelling, concise communicator
  • High energy for a short project to be carried out with focus
  • Reliable
  • Self-motivated and keen to work with an informal project target in mind
  • Organised, with good numeracy and computer skills (Microsoft Excel, email, online)
  • A bonus if have marketing, online or logistics experience!
  • Aged 18+

Description of Likely Tasks

The below tasks will be carried out with the support and direction of a Katie Piper Foundation team member.

  • Raising funds through a special one-off project online
  • Receiving a full brief from the Head of Fundraising on one specific online fundraising short-term project
  • Developing a marketing and PR plan for the activity
  • Updating the project plan notes
  • Getting the images right for the audience, and writing descriptions of elements of the activity
  • Communicating with participants to encourage engagement, and thank those involved
  • Communicating with other stakeholders in the project who are making it possible
  • Carrying out practical logistics such as sending out of items
  • Summarising and evaluating the project with the Head of Fundraising

What You’ll Leave With

  • A developed knowledge of charity fundraising and marketing and PR in the third sector
  • The knowledge that you have enabled essential care for survivors of burns and people living with scars
  • Feedback from the Head of Fundraising to help progress your personal and/or career aims
  • An invite to an hour long session with the Head of Fundraising to represent your achievements
