Behind-the-scenes peek at our rehabilitation centre

The journey to opening a dedicated rehabilitation centre for adults who have survived burns has been one of meticulous preparation.  On BBC Breakfast on Friday 26th October, you can have a behind-the-scenes glimpse as we prepare to evolve out of our development phase, and into being a fully-fledged service.

Running a rehabilitation service, where survivors can focus wholly on furthering their rehabilitation through techniques such as scar management has been the goal of The Katie Piper Foundation since its inception. Developing this service with patients at its heart, has been a rewarding and challenging process.

On the BBC piece you’ll see that Katie has carefully chosen the perfect team to deliver this life changing service.

We’re delighted to be working in collaboration with charitable status hospital – Fairfield Independent Hospital in Merseyside.   With the charitable hospital’s 40 years of experience of running a high quality health service with a renowned physiotherapy team and tranquil grounds, and The Katie Piper Foundation’s almost ten years of listening to survivors of burns and providing practical help and treatments, this is a partnership built on shared goals and a passion to see survivors of burns thrive. You’ll see the fantastic physiotherapists there who are able to enable huge leaps in the path of full recovery, using their longstanding skills as well as utilising new cutting edge equipment that is rarely available for survivors of burns.

Danielle, photographed below is one of several patients who saw huge impact of having a tailored package of treatment and care delivered intensively daily.  She has now gone on to be our Patient Coordinator so in turn, has made a huge difference to patients during our development phase and will go on to do so to many more.  Professor Kayvan Shokrollahi featured in the broadcast was instrumental in making the vision of this serviced, the first of its kind in the UK, a reality.

We aim to deliver over 3,000 hours of direct care, treatment and activities in the first 12 months of opening. So we look forward to reporting back to you in early 2019. We’ll be able to tell you about new patients whose lives will have changed course, thanks to their commitment to rehabilitation in partnership with The Katie Piper Foundation and our trusted partners.

If you’re an adult who has burns or scars from an injury, please ask us any questions, make an enquiry or read more about the rehabilitation service here. You can contact us using our contact form or call our Charity Services Team on 07496 827 266.

Could you be our Chair? – More time to apply

The Katie Piper Foundation, which began as a very small charity born out of Katie Piper’s dedication to improving outcomes for survivors of burns, has a big objective: a world in which scars do not limit a person’s function, social inclusion or sense of wellbeing. We are now poised to take a major step towards achieving our vision – not only through the provision of rehabilitation and support during recovery to burns survivors, but also through developing the means to actively promote their subsequent continued social inclusion and wellbeing.

We are looking for a new Non-Executive Chair of the Board of Trustees for The Katie Piper Foundation. At an exciting time of growth and development for the organisation, you will have a fundamental role in ensuring that the Foundation fulfils its vision and aims, leading the Board of Trustees in supporting the values of the Foundation, clarifying its strategic direction, ensuring sound governance and holding the executive to account for performance delivery.

If you have the leadership and governance experience we need, please download the pack here see http://www.executive-action.com/katie-piper-foundation-chair/ for full details. The closing date for applications is flexible beyond the initial date advertised.
